A Budget Fairy Tale Moment - My Kitchenaid Mixer

Yes, my friends, it's time for another Budget Fairy Tale Moment.

It has been a while since the last chapter in this series (you may recall the tale of my wedding dress - part one and part two), so I'll refresh your memory.  I have a knack of finding really great deals.  Not all the time and not on everything, but once in a while I stumble onto amazing bargains, like a floor model Dyson vacuum for less than half price or my wedding gown for $15.

Today is the story of how I got a nearly-new KitchenAid mixer for $150.

I'm not a cook, nor do I pretend to be.  But I love cooking and I hope to someday have a lot more time to cook and bake and experiment in the kitchen.  With this dream in mind, we loaded up our wedding registry with a bunch of kitchen items I knew I wouldn't use for several years, but when I was ready, they would be there.

I dreamed of having a bright red KitchenAid mixer to add to my collection, and we threw it on the registry knowing that at $350 retail, we would likely not get it.  I mean, hello ... this is no Kardashian wedding.  We love our friends, but they broke.  It's cool.

And the wedding came and went, and no mixer.  I decided it wasn't a necessity for now and moved it out of my mind.

Then a couple weeks ago, one of my Disney Bride friends Wendy posted the following message on Facebook:

"Yo, I got a sweet red KitchenAid mixer that I'm selling (Mindy, this is pretty much directed at you, so message me!)" [Paraphrased]

I did in fact message Wendy and learned that her KitchenAid mixer was:
a) Out of the box but otherwise like new,
b) Was "cinnamon gloss," not exactly the "empire red" that I had on our registry but, gosh, darn close,
c) She basically just wanted to unload it for cheap because their new mixer (in a different color that matches their new kitchen in their new house) was already ordered and on the way.

Truth be told I just had given myself a big pep talk about spending money unnecessarily but carpe diem, I thought, and told her to state her asking price.  She said $150, I said okay, I sent the money via Paypal, boom, done.

A week later, I had my mixer.

Isn't she so purdy?  She needs a name, I think.  The red reminds me of Jessica Rabbit so my first choice is Jessica, but I'm open to suggestions.

AND, do you follow wedding planner extraordinaire Desiree Russo on Instagram?  If you do, then you know she has a peculiar side job involving bedazzling KitchenAid mixers! I know.  I'm considering setting up a new GoFundMe campaign so people can donate to the very important project of beautifying my mixer.  I mean, what's the point of having a mixer if it's not covered in rhinestones!

Oh, and one final THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to Wendy for helping me score this amazing deal.  DISNEY BRIDES ARE THE BEST!

  1. How super cool of Wendy!!! Love the color! I have the fire engine red one. I'd love it blinged out too, but doubt it will ever happen.

  3. I'm glad you finally got your mixer. I've lusted after one in the store too, but mostly because it's so pretty and not because I'd know what to do with one. LOL

Jessica is a great name. I also like "Big Red". Makes "her" seem more badass.

The bedazzling is really pretty. You were so good with glittering your shoes, so I'm sure you could gem it yourself!
