Couture Minnie Mouse Ears in LOVE Magazine

This may be the opposite of anything “budget,” but it’s still really cool.  Fashion magazine LOVE is doing a designer-inspired tribute to our girl Minnie Mouse for their Autumn/Winter 2013 issue, also their 5th anniversary, available on newsstands in the UK now.

According to LOVE’s Editor-in-Chief, Katie Grand, the idea for this special feature came from a well known photograph of Madonna donning Minnie ears in bed.

“As work began on this issue, that famous Herb Ritts shot of Madonna popped up on my Instagram feed, the one where she’s in bed wearing the Minnie Mouse ears. There was something about that look – knowing, but genuine, and genuinely sweet – that got me thinking.

“And I’ve always been a big fan of Minnie’s style and that polka-dot bow. So we set about getting my favourite girls in Minnie Mouse ears that had been enhanced by the likes of Miu Miu and Jake and Dinos Chapman for Louis Vuitton.

“But that wasn’t enough; we had to get Minnie Mouse herself in on the act too. So she flew across the Atlantic all the way from Disney World to a studio in North London so we could shoot her for the cover.”

There will be several covers, which means it’s sure to become a major collector’s edition.  Look for them on Ebay with inflated prices pretty much immediately, I’m sure!

Which designer ears would you rock? It probably comes as no surprise I love the Miu Miu ears!  Pink and orange match my blog’s theme and were our wedding colors!

There are some cute ears (Miu Miu and Loewe), but in general… not a fan. I’m also not a fan of how the magazine obscured the ears and Minnie’s face in the covers, half covering them with their name. I… would have done things differently on that cover.

I agree, it seems all the ears are a little obscured on the covers. But I like anything that shows Disney in a different, creative light!

I think the designer Minnie ears are a fun idea and a great way for these designers to do something different, but if they were available to purchase I wouldn’t really be interested in any of them really. If I HAD to pick, the Miu Miu and the Dior are more my speed, but mostly because of the polka dots and the big pink bow and pearls. I’m a sucker for girly details like that. :D

I love these! More than anything, I love the idea of unconventional Minnie ears. I think this provides great inspiration for DIYers to create ears in different fabrics and styles. I especially like the Dior one for their unique interpretation of Minnie ears. Fun post, Mindy! :)
